This is Canada

This is what my backyard looks like today. After a few warm days mixed with sun and rain that wiped out most of the snow, we're right back into it.

This is Canada.

This time last year after a mild Winter, I'd already had my Versys on the road for nearly 2 weeks. So now I find myself surfing the internet forums and re-reading my Winter issues of Cycle Canada, and reading the excellent stories of Lance Oliver's The Ride So Far, all the while my wife asking me "Why are you wearing your motorcycle helmet?" She'll never get it, so I don't try to explain.

This is Canada.

Soon (I hope) I'll start posting great Spring pictures of my Versys against the greatest backdrops I can find of all things Canadian. I'm inviting my fellow Canucks to do the same and add on your pics and ride reports from all around this vast nation with your V deep in the Rocky Mountains, dancing with a Saskatchewan wheat field, or pulled up to a lonely Nova Scotia lighthouse. Let that Maple Leaf fly, after all, this is Canada.

Always trust your cape.

It's +10 C and sunny in Montreal right now, and I can't take the bike out for a spin because of the winter tire law. Pretty stupid .....

Know how you feel. All our snow had melted, then last Friday we got a foot of snow, and 10 miles east of here they got 2 feet. But it's March so it's almost gone already.

At least we have hockey. Hang in there!

The Shinko 705's I have on are rated M+S. They comply with your tire laws.

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

Nop M+S doesn't do it. It needs to be certified snow tires. Even studded tires wouldn't do if they don't have the snow tire logo on them. If they made snows that were approved, they'd sell them by the bucket over here

Well yes and no

Because of social coverage, they are law to prevent explosion of cost

Everybody that get injured on a road related mathers in quebec is fully covered (pedestrian, driver, passenger ...), hospital (that doesn't change since we have medicare for all), salary, rehab fee and so on, so in exchange for a few restriction, we are sure to be well taken care of in case of an accident

It's a social choice that was made 30 some year ago, and it's working "ok" (always place for improvement)

I fully agree with restrictions, though they should be based on weather conditions and not dates As if there is a snowstorm on the 17th you can ride no problem, but on the 14th if it's sunny and 15C outside, you can't...

This is a situation that drives me nutz on many levels
Why do we insist on putting idiots in charge of making so many important decisions? If they're not intelligent enough to check the weather, they should be removed from the decision making process.

I'd rather pay a little more for my insurance than have some gov. stooge tell me when I can ride. Unfortunately in the age of Obama were headed for the same BS.

Same riding conditions out west too. I saw two bikes out last week, the next day we got a huge dump of snow. Will be at least another week or two before anyone's riding in Edmonton.

Only experienced motorcyclists should be allowed to make laws pertaining to motorcycles. I detect some cabin fever here, look what we are talking about!
ATYC> I live near London, let's do a spring ride, there are quite a few local V riders around here. I'll post a group ride invite when these miserable conditions improve.
