Repsol Semi-Synthetic Oil Change

Had the oil changed after my st.louis trip. Went with the Repsol Semi-Synthetic Oil. Bike has 3800 miles on it and first off i noticed how the gear changes were getting smooth as butter on the ride home. anyones input on the oil would be appreciated.

Repsol semi-synthetic Moto Racing 4T 5W-40. It aint so bad... How much did you pay per litre?

what about the clutch?
repsol is considered a reliable brand here in eastern europe.if its price is good it may worth a try

Had it changed at the dealership. Was charged just a little over $7.00 a quart

I used Mobil 1 10W-40 last time. I also noticed smoother shifting. I'm switching to Rotella 15W-40. It meets the JASO spec, if that's important to anyone. Some seem to be hung up on that. I'm not so much, I just think it's a good oil.

here in greece temperature rise dramatically last week.about 30 celsius atm....
so i am moving to amsoil 15-50 so as to replace same brand 10-40 i am running through winter.

Um, someone help me out here. Is the oil in your gearbox even the same oil as the engine? I will claim "girl" here if I am wrong. Aren't synthetics for high compression high temperature applications?? Somebody edumacate me here.

Engine oil is also the gearbox and wet-clutch oil. There are synthetic oils for all applications, be it automobile, motorcycle, racing... 10W-40 JASO MA (high friction applications) motorcycle oil is the standard recommended for Versys. 5W-40 and even 0W-40 have a lower viscosity for easier cold starts and quicker circulation, and have the same viscosity as 10W-40 at operating temperatures. 10W-50, 15W-50, or 20W-50 JASO MA oil can be used in hotter climates to maintain proper viscosity.

Invader, thank you for the elegant explanation. I guess if using a synthetic yields obvious results, that makes the choice obvious. Bottom line for me, does the extra cost show me some increased performance?

I may be curious enough to try some out.

Using 15W/50 Motul and bike is fine under tropical heat. Question is , How is the alternator lubricated and if using 15W/50 does it have any ill effect on the Alternator lubrication?

Alternator is oil cooled, not lubricated. Nothing to worry about... Are you using Motul's semi-synthetic 5100 4T 15W50, or 'Technosynthese' 3100 GOLD 4T 15W50?

Invader.

Temp can go up to 36~37 deg C on a normal day. Payment temp can be in the 40++. So we run hot here all year long, only when its the mosoon season does the Temp drop but we dont ride in the rain.
I think I will stick to Motul SS (ester) 5100 4T 15W50. I change oil/filter every 5K kilometers.

In my experience, synthetic oil lasts longer before shifting becomes a little more notchy than dino oil. With dino I would change oil more often (3k-4k miles) than I do with synthetic (5k+ miles).

If the synthetic oil still costs more per mile than dino, I will write off that difference to the peace of mind I get from the superior lubricating properties of synthetic vs dino.
