turned 40 today!

My Versys turned 40 today (40060 miles on the odo now), exactly on our 22 month anniversary.

It's been a good almost 2 years, although she need a little work done. Today I discovered a fork leg was leaking where one of the seals got damaged. It leaves an oily spot on the ground when parked a few hours, but nothing on the tire. The R1 shock has been leaking a little too, even after I got it rebuilt--it goes back to the suspension shop soon. Between the fork and the automatic chain oiler this is not a shiny clean bike.

About 12,000 on my 2012, I got it in June of that year. NOW my 2009 klr just rolled over 30,000 mainly trouble free miles, one short broke the completely trouble free streak. I am hoping my Versys gives as good of service the only problem was a dead cooling fan.

BYW I get about 8 months of the year to ride here due to the salt. I refuse to ride in it as it'll eat a bike alive.

Or was that look THEN leap?

Just rolled over 80,000 klms. New foot pegs today, it's like a new bike. hehe

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

I've done "new" foot pegs on mine, by borrowing the rubber bits from the pillion pegs to use on the rider pegs when they wear out. I'll have to actually buy some next time, since there were only two spares.

Mine is a 2nd gen (2011), and they have updated pegs from the 1st gen. But the rubber bits wear out.

I hate winters... Just hose down the bike after everyday or apply some anti corrosion material before winter time sets in.

67000 kms. Anyone have any major problems, or just regular wear and tear?

Yea...I gotta go to work and can't ride all the time! Maybe I should win the lottery?

Only problem I've had was the cooling fan died (or was DOA) Kawasaki wants $450.00 for the stupid little fan, I found one from a Ninja that bolted right up for $16.00 on Fleabay.

And of course the ever popular gauge cluster rattle.

While I like the Versys and my KLR it seems that Kawasaki goes 99.9% of the way and says "Good enough, ship it" And were on our own to finish the job.

Or was that look THEN leap?

Bought a '11 in Nov of 12, will hit 22,000 km's this week. Probably hit 25K for the year, maybe more - depends if the weather is decent in November (I hear Maine calling)
