A Ride to Sky Diving Competition
Motorcycle Ride to Skydiving Championships – 12/29/16
We gathered under cloudy skies but with pretty warm temps for a late December day. We had 8-9 bikes, three of them with passengers aboard. It was quite a collection with Harleys, Goldwings, a Beemer, a Zuki and a Kawi. Bob and Althea led us up the frontage road past Picaccho, and on through Eloy to the airport/skydiving center. It is the collegiate national championships, so there was lots of highflying action. The great thing there is you walk among the competitors, see them rolling up their chutes and practicing their group formations, and stand about 20 yards away from where they come falling from the sky and sliding across the wet grass for a stand up landing. We saw teams that were competing, some dressed in what looked like onesies pajamas and some in flying wing suits-see photos. After about 90 minutes of watching we headed a little farther north to a great lunch at the Robeson resort. Althea voted for a little longer ride home so we went back via the frontage road and then cut across Park Link and finished via Catalina, Vistoso, and Moore Rd. The weather cooperated all day and everybody had a great time.
Forty years away from 2 wheel fun. Sure is great to be back smelling the roses!!!
