North Carolina Group Ride/Wilson's Creek (close enough for TN/GA/SC/VA)

Good Day Forum Members,
I have taken it on myself to plan a group ride/camp out the weekend of Nov. 18th/19th/20th 2016. So don't put those bike away for winter yet. I rode Wilson's Creek last weekend and just scratched the surface.

Reasons to come:

There are heaps of miles of forest service roads.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is pretty close.

The area offers other mountain blacktop twisties for those who would prefer more blacktop.

Multiple attractions including Grandfather Mountain Preserve & Mount Mitchell State Park.

Mortimer Campground is centrally located in the area and offers $10 sites and has Hot Showers.

There is another private campground a short walk down the road who has hosted motorcyclist groups as well and has a cabin rental if that suits your lifestyle better. All types of riders/bikes are welcome but it will require a good bit of gravel/dirt forest service road to access the campgrounds. I will likely need a head count to reserve sites in advance depending on the response from you guys a couple weeks prior to the ride or you can reserve the sites online yourself. I would be happy to lead some rides that I am familiar with in the area but all are welcome to do their own thing.

Itinerary at the moment:

Meet at campground Friday afternoon (I can probably arrive by 6pm ish) set up camp, eat drink and be merry.

Saturday: Ride pretty much all day. We can stop to eat lunch in Blowing Rock or Linville. Gas up and go for round two. If you would like to ride with me these will be what I would call as light adventure with the option of a little more technical fun with minimal blacktop. I will not fault anyone wanting to do their own thing.

Saturday night reconvene at the campground and share stories, eat, drink, be marry!!!

Sunday: Break down camp and do a morning ride (if you have time). Head into Morganton, NC for lunch and then head back home.

Hope to see/meet you there.

Post if you have questions or would like to attend.

Cheers,
Taylor

OK Guys. Just a few weeks out and as of right now it is myself, Ricki (BMWGS), maybe Rob (KTM1190R) and my friend Dustin (riding my Versys). Any of you NC riders get permission from your significant other to come for one or both nights? I thought at least a few people in this great forum community would be into it. If there are not that may people coming then I will change the camping spot to another free group site without facilities. Hey.....I'm on a budget (aka saving for another bike).

I'd like to.. I ride those areas frequently and camp some too.. However the dates dont work for me, family Birthday get together. I might break free for a day and meet you guys somewhere if I can. Ill probably Bring The Super Duke though because my rear tire on the Versys is not what I would consider safe for that distance unless I get the time to replace it, which has been nill as of late.

I have extra essentials (sleeping bag, tent, & sleeping pad) that you can use on the trip. Let me know and I will bring them.

10-4. I know cell service can be spotty in the region but I can get you a couple of numbers and we should be able to get back to you in a reasonable time frame to get a meet up spot.

UPDATE: So with the fire ban and the cold weather a collective descision has been made to rent a cabin. There is currently a group of six riders (me being the only Versys forum member). My Versys will be out there but I will be on the BMW. If anyone has any last minute plans to jion us the best way to let me know is by email. I will try to post pictures and videos over the next few weeks of the trip.

Send PM , select email option !
Ride safe out there.

Taylor
