GIVI Tank Lock System BF04 and BF26 both fit 2015+

The recommended tank lock Ring for the 2015 2016 Versys 650 LT

According Twisted Trottle and Revzilla the recommended lock ring is Givi BF26 which is twice the price of the BF04 that was the ring used on most all Kawasaki bikes prior to 2015. So what is up with this did Kawasaki really change the tank rings I think not the BF04 ring lines up with the bolt pattern on my 2016. Does anyone know of any differences maybe the stand off height of the 3 little spacers supplied with the rings?

Thanks for any info or light you may shed on this issue.

Keith

From what I can find on the internet they are recommending the GIVI XS320 tanklock tank bag for the 2015 -2016 V650 which apparently uses some new extreme lock system. Same bag being recommended for the Africa Twin.

Yes, you need the BF26 if you want to use the XS320. Otherwise the BF04 will work with all the other Givi Tanklock bags.

BTW I have a brand new XS320 for sale. $125. I decided to go with the larger XS308 instead.

Is the XS320 the only bag that needs the BF26 or all the XS series bags? looking at the XS320 that seems to be the only bag that uses the BF26. Is the BF26 backwards compatible with the BF04?

thanks

Sorry if I wasn't clear. "Otherwise the BF04 will work with all the other Givi Tanklock bags." By that I meant the BF04 will work with all the other Givi Tanklock bags. Not just the XS bags - all the other tanklock bags. Only the XS320 requires the special BF26 ring.

No. The difference is the ring is turned sideways. You could stick a regular tanklock bag on the BF26 - but it would be sideways.

I think I read somewhere that someone drilled new holes in a BF04 ring so they could turn it sideways and mount it to the tank.

Thanks for the clearing that up, it is odd to make one tank bag with a different mount.

Does the BF04 work on the 2015 650 for all other bags?

Yes the BF04 is used for all bags except XS320, I use the BF04 with the XS308 works perfectly

Only the XS320 requires the special BF26 ring

I worry because Givi USA officially says the BF26 is the only adapter that works on the 2015 and 2016 650, and that only works with the xs320. But that just may be because they don't have the model to test it on to verify it works and they're covering their butts legally.

The ring and bolt pattern is the same on both rings, the difference is where the cut out area of the ring is that the lock uses. The XS320 locking release lever is in a different location .

The BF26 cut out area is at 3 o'clock.
The BF04 cut out area is at 6 o'clock.

the XS320 and the XS308 are shaped similar but with weight in the XS308 it does flex to touch the tank. I do not know if the XS320 does the same. The XS308 is larger 20l and the XS320 I think is 15l

Scroll up ^^^^^ this has been answered many times, starting with the 3rd post in this thread. The BF26 is for the XS320. the BF04 is for all their other tank bags.

Ok zirconx, scroll up and show me where it explicitly states that the BF04 works on the 2015 650. And don't include kzen's recent reply.

If you scroll up to near the beginning of the thread you'll read:

Sorry if I sounded a little frustrated, it seems this question gets asked a lot but no one is reading the previous answers.

Maybe your question was more asking about model year differences, and not about tank bag differences? They are all the same. Either ring will fit any year Versys. But the XS320 bag is recommended only for the 2015+ due to the shape of the tank.

That's exactly what I'm asking. Givi says there are model year differences and that the only bag and ring that work on the 2015 are the XS320 and the BF26, I know that. Clearly there are lots of differences between the 2014 and the 2015 650, maybe the gas tank filler cap is different maybe not. So maybe I don't want to waste my money buying something that might not work on my bike. Why would I ask if the BF04 works with such and such Givi bag? There's plenty of evidence on the internet about which rings to use for which bag. I'm asking which ring to use for which bike.

Oh, and I originally asked

.

Sorry if I sound a bit frustrated but I don't like it when people treat me like a dumbass when asking a question that hasn't been answered and then not answering the question.

I have a Givi tank ring tank bag on my 2010. Very happy with it. Not sure what tank ring I got but it was a perfect fit. It came with spacers to sit a few millimeters above the OEM tank ring rather than on it. Think I paid $19CDN for it this spring.
