At 6'2" the stock windscreen was not working for me so I ordered a PUIG touring screen (5999H) in light smoke. It fit pretty well but I had to put a couple of washers under the adjustment knob so it would not rub against the screen.
First the pics and then a ride report
SO I just took it out around town and up the highway a few miles and back and BOY what a difference this new screen makes. At the lowest point there was still a little buffeting across the top of my helmet but at the highest setting it was so calm that there was almost no difference in noise with my visor up or down. I wont even need to wear plugs anymore and I actually had to turn down the music in my helmet. I started getting too warm due to lack of air flow. I have since split the difference and have it set right at the middle so we will see where it needs to be after some fine tuning.
When you have it set like this with it being totally calm, do you have to look through the shield, or can you still look over it? I generally don't like having to look through it.
Found it on Amazon. It won't arrive before I leave Monday for a 3 week tour of the Southwest U.S. but will be waiting for me when I return to Canada and really need it this fall. Thanks again.
Just installed the Puig 5255h in light smoke to replace stock screen on a '14. Wow! What an improvement, I almost changed it back to stock because I felt like I was riding indoors, ;-)
I just ordered the Madstad system 18" sport in dark grey. Anybody know anything about this screen? I am 5' 10". I have found the stock screen useless in position 1 and 2. Just changed it to position 3, will see if that does anything.
I am a little concerned that the new screen will provide too much protection. I am in Florida and I like having some air flow for most of my riding around town.
They claim it is sufficiently adjustable to provide whatever degree of air flow you want.
US Army Training Unit for Combat Engineers during President Reagan's (small) war years. We trained combat engineers for all the branches of service, but also did Basic training for US Army. Combat engineers are the next line of battle after the Marines, on their heel steps often.
That looks great! I've heard CalSci makes a well engineered screen. Just be sure your hardware is not cheap, since even good screen makers scrimp on hw to make ends meet. Home Depot works for HW (or they used to before they got all Chinese hw), but McMaster Carr has excellent hardware for about the same price and they overnight it for about $5.
If you are 6'-2", the Vs. 650 should fit you perfect, I know 6'-0" w/32" inseam is about 2" short to flat foot. NOW, you have a perfect bike. Congratulations!
